What is nanchan temple?

Nanchan Temple, also known as Nanchan Monastery, is located in the southeast of Wutai Mountain in Shanxi Province, China. Built in the Tang Dynasty (782 AD), it is one of the oldest and most important temples of the Chinese Buddhist tradition. The temple covers an area of about 400,000 square meters and has more than 500 rooms, halls, and other buildings. The most famous part of the temple is the Great Buddha Hall, which houses a giant wooden statue of Buddha that is 15 meters tall. The wooden statue is considered a masterpiece of Buddhist art and is one of China's most precious cultural relics. Nanchan Temple has undergone several renovations and restorations over the centuries, making it a significant historical and cultural site in China. It was designated a National Key Cultural Relic Preserve in 1961.
